There has been a lot of interest in taking college classes next semester. To help students prepare, AWC is offering an Introduction to Canvas and College Classes course. The class is worth 1 college credit, and SHS students can also earn 0.5 elective credit. AWC is providing scholarships for SHS junior high and high school students to cover the cost of the credit.
The deadline to get help from AWC with registration is June 4. Students can get started today by reviewing the attached flyer and enrolling in AWC (at no cost) at https://www.azwestern.edu/. Once there, click the big red "Apply Now" button. If you need support, you can call AWC directly at (928) 669-2214.
If students or parents would like help with AWC admission and registration, Mr. Tapp will be at SHS tomorrow, June 3rd, from 2:00–4:00 PM to help students get admitted and try to expedite admission records so they can register before the deadline.
Please note that although the flyer says the class is in person, AWC has agreed to broadcast it over Zoom as well. Students can choose to do it on Zoom or attend in Parker or Quartzite.

Grand Canyon University’s College of Engineering and Technology is inviting high school students to participate in Tech & Innovator Days, where students can come to campus and put their STEM skills to use over the summer.
Each session is a one or two-day focused experience where students actively build, create, and explore.
Topics include:
- Cybersecurity and ethical hacking
- Game development
- Engineering design challenges
- Artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship
- Engineering and computing research
There is no cost to attend, and students may register for one or multiple sessions.
